New coronaviral statistics released Friday show California leads the nation with the highest rate of new infections.
California’s rate rose to 3,079 new cases, up 2.6 percent from February.
The state is the nation’s top hotspot, with more than 7,000 new cases since the start of the pandemic.
California has also seen the highest percentage of new cases among the U.S. states and territories with the largest populations, including Texas, Alaska and New York.
The Associated Press uses hospital discharge data to calculate death rates and coronavaccine-related hospitalizations.
Rates are based on an individual’s case-fatality rate.
