Ohio is experiencing a coronaviral pandemic with a higher death toll than the U.S. overall.

But what’s the state’s population like?

A new analysis of census data, the first of its kind, finds that the population is at an all-time high.

The Ohio State University Center for Public Health Research (CPSR) reports that the state has nearly 8.5 million residents in a county of about 12,000 people, with a population of 3.7 million people.

That’s a population that was almost 1 million in 2017, when Ohio had nearly 13.5 percent of the nation’s population.
